What is a geogrid?

The geogrids are high quality polymer structures created by an innovative manufacturing process.

The polymers used in the production of the geogrids have the advantage of being resistant to all chemicals normally existing in coastal and waterway environments, and are also formulated to provide optimum stability when exposed to sunlight.

These polymer qualities enable the production of grids having the required properties for inclusions for major civil engineering projects, where their use gives scope to engineering innovation and also provides the opportunity to achieve savings in time and materials.

Applications:

       Breakwaters

        To Breakwaters are constructed to dissipate the energy of incident wares and thereby create calmer water
        on their leeward side. In exposed locations, massive armoring units are required and these need to be
        supported a strong inner core which is placed on a sound foundation. Where the sea bed has a low bearing
        capacity, adequate foundation may be constructed from replacement of fill material which is reinforced with
        shouman geogrids and shouman gabions.

Crack control and surface reinforcement concrete

        To Shouman plastic nets are used as distribution mesh in a variety of concrete applications. The nets being
         light weight and non corrodible are proven successful secondary reinforcement to control cracking in
         concrete.
         Shouman nets are chemically and biologically inert and can be installed near the concrete surface in order to
         control the shrinkage cracking and impact damage.

         River bed and bank protection

         The shouman plastic nets prevent scour and undercutting, add structural strength to the embankment,
         promote vegetation, allow water to pass freely through the bank and create an anchor for roots
         formation adding further stability to the slope.

Sea walls and coastal protection

         To prevent valuable land from erosion by the sea waves and to prevent flooding of low level areas, its often
         necessary to provide a defensive seawall. Shouman plastic nets are able to protect the beach from erosion
         and waves action. A toe gabion is designed to provide revetment support and prevent scour.

Road construction

         To Creating a stable foundation over soft or unstable soil used to be a big problem, specially on
       construction sites with heavy traffic causing deep ruts. Shouman plastic nets are manufactured from the
         most durable, convenient, economical polymers and the safest method of reinforcing soft soil. when
         granular material is compacted over these nets, it partially penetrates and projects through the apertures
         creating an interlocking action between the nets. The interlock enables the nets to resist horizontal shear
         from the fill and thereby mobilize the maximum bearing capacity of a soft subsoil, saving in fill thickness
         of 40 % are regularly achieved.
